Introduction

In six verses, Ahmadou traces his lineage back to Muhammad al-Mukhtar, known as Ayitta (آيتّا), “the father of the clan”: his father Muhammad al-Khayr, then Bijji, Ilbak, Musa, al-Qal, Mahha, Ahmad, al-Hashir, Hassan, Hamma Huda, al-Salih, Dafa, Anif, al-Faqih and Ayitta.

Putting a genealogy into verse helps to keep the chain of ancestors in memory.
