Origins and traditions
The Idaksahak name Morocco, or more broadly “the North”, as their place of origin, which they are said to have left a few centuries ago. According to some traditions, they lived for a time in the Timbuktu region before moving to the area they inhabit today.
Nomadic herders, the Idaksahak are also a maraboutic tribe, known for their scholars of the Islamic sciences.
The droughts and insecurity of recent decades have severely tested the pastoral communities of the region.
