1. Methodological note and provenance

This document brings together a list of localities, dates and casualty figures for attacks that targeted populations in the Azawad region (Ménaka, Gao, Ansongo, Gourma) between 2018 and 2023.

Source: list transmitted via personal communication, Charles Grémont, historian, research fellow at IRD (UMR LPED), on 25 September 2026. The document received does not specify the chain of primary sources (institutional reports, press, local testimonies) behind each figure.

These figures have therefore not been independently verified through systematic cross-checking with open sources (reports of the UN Security Council's Panel of Experts on Mali, International Crisis Group, MINUSMA, local and international press). Some categories (per-locality tallies and area-wide tallies spanning several years) may partially overlap.

This document should therefore be read as a compilation shared for community remembrance and documentation purposes, to be cross-checked against verifiable sources, and not as an officially established or validated record.
